International Perspectives on Interracial Communication (IPIC)

Exploration of communication’s role in shaping understandings of race, ethnicity, and culture in Costa Rica. Experiential learning occurs via readings, discussions, panels, group presentations, in-depth interviews with local residents, and a service-learning community project. Students are challenged to engage critically and experientially with course content from an international perspective. Course includes a service-learning project during the semester that either employs skills or knowledge learned in the course or teaches new skills or knowledge related to course objectives. Student engagement in the service-learning component will be up to 25% of overall instruction time.
