Exploration of communication’s role in shaping understandings of race, ethnicity, and culture in Costa Rica. Experiential learning occurs via readings, discussions, panels, group presentations, in-depth interviews with local residents, and a service-learning community project. Students are challenged to engage critically and experientially with course content from an international perspective.
Course includes a service-learning project during the semester that either employs skills or knowledge learned in the course or teaches new skills or knowledge related to course objectives. Student engagement in the service-learning component will be up to 25% of overall instruction time.
