Marybeth came to UGA in 2003 after completing her M.A. in speech at the University of Hawai'i. Her research centered on teaching public speaking to diverse audiences because she considers public speaking to be a life skill as well as a form of personal empowerment. Prior to UGA, she taught at Georgia State University, Perimeter College, Athens Technical College, University of Hawai'i, and the Institute of Paper Science and Technology. Marybeth received her BIS from Georgia State University, where she focused on business as well as interpersonal communication. In addition, Marybeth's 20+ years of corporate experience in the defense industry, retail, banking, commercial real estate, and Title VII litigation, as well as experience as a communication consultant, have given her a well-rounded background and interesting hands-on examples to share in her interpersonal and public speaking classes.
