John Banister is a doctoral student in rhetorical studies. Before coming to Georgia in 2015, he studied speech communication at Iowa State University where he earned his B.A. and M.A. degrees. He has presented research on classical rhetoric and communication pedagogy at national and regional conferences.
John’s research interests fall into two broad categories: how the classical tradition of rhetoric serves as a foundation for contemporary communication pedagogy and the relationship between public narratives and American civil religion. His current project examines public understanding of the War in Iraq.
