Communication Studies Graduate Program and Debate Reunion


Hosted by the Department of Communication Studies and the Georgia Debate Union

Join us this spring for a Comm Studies reunion for graduate program and debate alumni! On Saturday, April 23rd, the event will kick off with an afternoon of activities, including an historic walking tour of the campus, golf tee times, and a conference of academic research for alumni interested in sharing their work with friends and colleagues (details below). Daytime activities will be followed by a reception with appetizers and an alumni banquet in the evening. A cash bar with be available. Please note: This event is for alumni of the Comm Studies/Speech Communication Graduate Program or the Debate Union. We hope to plan a wider event for undergraduate alumni soon!

Mock Debate at UGA Law School

Time: 2:00-3:30pm ET 

Location: Dean Rusk Hall, Room 120 

Resolved: The United States should significantly reduce its military presence in the Republic of Korea. Swapnil Agrawal/Victoria Yonter vs Cameron Henderson/Katie Marshall; Judges will be UGA Debate alumni. 6 minute constructives, 2 minute cross examination, 4 minute rebuttals, 5 minute preparation time for each team

After the debate, gather in the Dean Rusk Hall, Larry Walker Room from 3:30- 4:30pm for afternoon refreshments.

Menu for the Reception: Enjoy a sumptuous buffet meal featuring Field Greens with Roasted Shallot Black Pepper Vinaigrette, Grilled Vegetable Pasta Salad, Spinach Romaine Salad with Feta Cheese and Black Olive Vinaigrette, Prime Rib with Merlot Thyme au Jus and Horseradish Cream, Spicy Shrimp Etouffee, Tortilla Crusted Chicken on a Black Bean Chili, Scallion Rice, Garlic Roasted Potatoes, Green Bean Roasted Pecan Compote, Savory Rolls and Whipped Butter, Flourless Chocolate Truffle Cake, and Homemade Bread Pudding with Irish Whiskey Sauce.

The Communication Studies Department has arranged a hotel block with discounted rates at the Holiday Inn and The Georgia Center’s UGA Hotel for Friday, April 22 through Sunday, April 24.

  • Holiday Inn: You may reserve a standard room with two double beds at the rate of $99 per night or a deluxe room with one king bed at the rate of $116 per night. When making a reservation, be sure to use the block code COM/ University of Georgia.
  • Georgia Center UGA Hotel: You may reserve a Classic Room with one queen or one king bed for $99 or a Select Room with two queen or two double beds for $129.
