Before joining the department, he completed his master's in Communication at Illinois State University where he worked on his thesis titled, "Memorable Health Messages and Their Influence on Health Behavior." During his master's, he received a Top-student paper award and an Outstanding Service award at the 2023 Central State Communication Association (CSCA) conference held in St. Louis, Missouri. He also volunteered as a tutor at Kingsley Junior High School in Normal, Illinois. His research interest focuses on health disparities and health campaigns. He is specifically interested in chronic disease disparities among minority races and how health campaigns could be used to elicit stakeholder action to help victims of such disparities.
