Backfiles for New Programs

backfilesEffective immediately, UGA will offer to provide our set of electronic backfiles to any new or emerging college program that requests it and genuinely cites a lack of evidence as a barrier to participation.

Electronic backfiles include:

  • Impact files (heg, growth, space, etc.)
  • Neg generics (consequentialism, theory)
  • Critique answers (other than those that are topic-specific)
  • Aff generics (referendum answers, con-con answers, etc.)
  • Answers to true backfiles (Spark, Wipeout, Aliens, etc.)

The decision to adopt this policy was made with universal support from members of the UGA team. To request the file-set, please email me (charrigan AT gmail DOT com). I have not yet decided on the optimal means of transfer and am open to suggestion.

Personally, I am not yet sold on the pedagogical benefits of Open Source. However, the arguments related to accessibility and the importance of encouraging new programs are undeniable. I hope that this will be of some benefit to programs that are starting out and improve the attractiveness of continuing with policy debate.
